My Life cont.....

I guess it doesn’t matter when things happened while I grew up somethings maybe I can give an idea on while others will be a blur but for the most part my life wasn’t as bad as some had it.

Best way to start I guess is what I remember during my grade school years. James and Theresa were the Tom boys in the family swinging from tress or hanging upside down from the swing set, where I enjoyed reading still remember the books Bobsey Twins, Betsy’s little star, Little House on the Prarie,Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. I couldn’t get enough.
Much to moms demise it wasn’t exercise. Now school Books were another story, if I wasn’t interested I could read the same thing for days and still be no closer to the answers I needed, which usually left mom yelling and me in tears. A certain magazine back then started carrying a story page where pictures were inserted in the place of words, it was a delight spending afternoons with grandma going thru the magazines tearing out the page and making a scrapebook. Don’t remember what happened to it but it was a time of fun during the hours I spent with her.
Church was Always a big part of our growing up. Activities with the youth group were endless , Mom and dad would organize bike rides with picnics, usually ending after about 17 miles or more with anywhere from 6-10 kids riding to State Park around capaldo and back of course always on back roads .
Going to the Dairy for milk, it came in big glass bottles usually with a cardboard cap and plastic handle,Always returned empty bottle when we went after the next one. Or the butcher for meat who always gave us a cold Hot Dog to eat while we waited and no one was there to tell us it wasn’t good for us unless we heated it up.
The Ice Skating at Lakeside Park when the lake use to freeze for weeks at a time and everyone and there neighbor kids and babies in tow spent the afternoon sledding and skating usually without skates .
And when Spring and summer hit fishing filling the day using anything from liver to fish eyes to biscuits and bubblegum from Picco’s for bait.
Tot Lot held at the park for so many weeks during the summer giving kids supervised activities for part of the day .
And all the nights and weekend spent with the Phillips or the Junks growing up and being normal kids always getting into somekind of mischief.
And like everything else time changes us all, we grew up, went our separate ways to make our lifes good or bad . But still if we take time the memories come flooding back, ya I have more and they will follow shortly as well as the new chapter of my life “Dealing with what life gives us and what we do with it.”
